Child Aid

Since the beginning in 2006, HPP-Congo has carried out six community development projects called Child Aid in the provinces of Kinshasa, Equateur and Katanga. By the end of 2013, HPP-Congo runs 3 Child Aid projects.
The main objective of Child Aid is to fight against poverty and to promote and ensure the well-being of children by significantly improving the living conditions of their families through a community participatory approach.  Families are organized and mobilized in Families Action Groups (FAG).The FAGs are community-based structures and all the project activities take their point of departure in the group. The FAGs are trained in cooperation and planning to undertake actions aimed at the improvement of their own living conditions and those of their children.

A Child Aid project consists of 3000 families organized in 8 areas with 10 Family Action Group in each area of 375 families. A project leader leads the activities in the project supported by 1-3 program officers and 8 Area Leaders.  One Child Aid project has 80 Families Action Groups (FAG). A FAG consists of 35 to 40 families with two coordinators elected by the members of the group. The activities in each of the eight areas are coordinated by 1 Area Leader. In each Area, the activities are fall under 10 lines (themes). They are carried out by the members of the FAGs who are at the helm of the project. The 10 lines in Child Aid are:
1) Strengthening the economy of the family
2) Health and Hygiene
3) Pre-schools
4) Children as active in the political, economic, social and cultural spheres of society
5) Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC)
6) Education
7) Local development
8) The environment
9) Gender
10) The fight against HIV / AIDS and malaria

Statistics sadly confirm the plight of African children, the facts shows according to the African Report on the welfare of children in Africa 2008, 43 % of the sub-Saharan population lived on less than one (1 ) per day 2005, 45 % of children were not registered at birth from 1999 to 2006, 25% of child deaths each year are due to malaria , 6% of child deaths are due to HIV , 500,000 children die the day of their birth , 1,000,000 babies are stillborn each year, 1 million babies die during their first month of life . The report also notes that 800,000 of these deaths are preventable.

This is in response to the appeal launched by UNICEF to bring relief to millions of children in alarming situation that the International Federation HPP designed the program with a view to improve the conditions of children through their families.

The program allows communities to organize themselves in representative structures commonly called Action Groups Families and is therefore in a prospective vision of community development where people play the leading role in all decisions relating to local investment while placing managing the natural resource base of productive activities. The action builds the capacity of families to enable them to analyze their environment, identify constraints and opportunities , plan and implement activities to improve their living conditions, individual and collective development. Thus, the program 's overall objective is to contribute significantly to the reduction of poverty among rural families and promote sustainable and acceptable development.

Currently , this program , which is a 5 year program of works, is executed in two provinces, namely:

Kinshasa Province : a project "Child Aid Kingabwa " with 3400 families participating in all activities.  Since 2007 the program was executed with the projects " Child Aid Malueka " and " Child Aid Kimbwala / Lutendele " who have already completed their activities in late 2011 with 3000 member families each;
Equateur province :  a project " Child Aid Gemena " with 6500 families
The project " Child Aid  Equateur " was started in 2011 and  closed its doors in july 2013  and worked with 2500 families.
