In the implementation of its Tonga Nzoto Project, an HIV/AIDS project funded by CDC (Center for Disease Control), financial literacy training is aimed at families enrolled in OVC activities to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to budget, save, and avoid debt in order to overcome unexpected expenses. The training was organized for 3 months and 812 people, the majority of whom were women.

Families were satisfied with the training, many felt that saving can only be possible for people with sufficient financial means many families used to borrow money in order to cope with their demands. But through training, they have adopted a savings system and have a contingency fund that can help them cope with emergencies, such as adequate food for OVC and their families, illness, death and so many others. To date, each household benefiting from this program is able to budget its basic needs and meet its disbursement deadlines.
